An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to join our excellent Neonatal Team here at Milton Keynes University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MKUHFT). We care for babies born from 27 weeks gestation and take pride in providing the perfect environment in which these tiny neonates can grow, thrive, and develop.

We work with the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Operational Delivery Network and Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes Local Maternity & Neonatal System (BLMK LMNS) to share governance strategies, develop policies and procedures and share learning from case reviews.

The Neonatal Unit at MKUH comprise of total of 17 cots; 1 intensive care cot, 5 high dependency cots and 11 special care cots. We are working with our maternity colleagues to open our transitional care unit within the coming year and are excited to watch the development of our new Women and Children’s Hospital.

We have had significant investment over the last few years in a fully refurbished Pharmacy department plus a state-of-the-art Aseptic Unit based within our new Cancer Centre. We are seeking to appoint a dynamic Acute Physician or Specialty Physician with an interest in Acute Medicine to join our team of Acute Physicians. Candidates’ dual trained in General Internal Medicine would be welcome to apply. MKUH have opened a new state of the art Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) Unit in October 2022, and this post will be crucial to support the new unit and deliver 7 days a week Same Day Emergency Care.

The successful applicant will join 10 other acute physicians and will work on the medical admission ward, Same day emergency care unit and provide medical in reach and review to medical patients within the Emergency Department.

There are a variety of shifts within acute medicine: These include MAU ward rounds (08:00 – 13:00), ED in reach and medical review (08:00 – 17:00), SDEC (09:00 – 19:00), 1:7 Weekend MAU ward rounds (08:00 – 12:00) 1:14 Weekend SDEC 1(12:00 -16:00). Participating in the general medical on call evening (1:15) and weekends (1:27) is also part of this job. An on call supplement is paid for non-resident overnight cover but the applicant may be expected to return to hospital as an emergency.

This is a 10PA job plan with 1PA core SPA. Up to an additional 1.5PAs of non-core SPA can be agreed in job planning. The SPA component is made up of core activities (appraisal, revalidation, CME, routine departmental meetings etc.) and non-core activities. Non-core activities are discussed and agreed within the Trust (via an agreed tariff and, on occasion, through a personal agreement). Non-core SPA may reflect activities such as educational supervision, research, leadership and quality improvement. Following appointment, non-core SPA may be used to participate in our consultant development programme, or in acquiring or consolidating specific skills and expertise. This schedule outlines the Direct Clinical Care component (DCC) of the job plan. In addition, the candidate will be on the General medial on call rota and MAU weekend rota. SPA activity and clinical admin can be delivered flexibly around the clinical shifts. SPA activity is outlined in the accompanying table and is delivered over the 5-week cycle rather than per week. It would be expected the successful candidate would organise their own timetable with regards to fitting this activity into the job plan. The job plan on appointment will consist of a split of 7.5:2.5 DCC/SPA. The department has a vacancy for a full-time team leader. The team leader role encompasses direct supervision of technicians combined with full participation in the operational aspects of the department.

The Decontamination Unit provides a comprehensive decontamination service to theatres, wards and departments within the hospital complex. The unit processes reusable surgical equipment and medical devices.

As a clinical support service, the department operates from 8am – 7pm (Monday – Friday) and 8am – 4pm Saturday. An on-call system is in operation from 4pm Saturday until 8am Monday. This on call system forms part of the team leader role. The on call covers trauma & emergency service for theatres and departments out of hours.

The current shift patterns are 8am – 4pm (early) and 11am – 7pm (late) on a rotational basis but the person appointed would need to flexible and change shifts at short notice to manage the needs of the service.

The successful candidate will rotate through a variety of medical wards and specialities gaining exposure and education in the areas of general and specialist medicine. Ward placement would usually be for 4-6 months and could involve rotating through general medicine, elderly care, respiratory, diabetes and endocrinology, haematology, cardiology, gastroenterology and acute medicine. He/she will be expected to participate in most of the day to day activities of the department in cooperation with the rest of the medical staff.



In addition there will be involvement in the out of hours rota paid in additional allowances per 2016 Junior doctor contract. In August 2019 we changed the way the on call is designed. The new out of hours rota is now a full shift rota that allows for 4 weeks of ward based (08:00-17:00) clinical activity followed by 2 weeks of intermittent shift work comprising a mixture of days, weekends and night shifts. The rota was designed to significantly improve the work life balance of junior doctors and we have worked hard to ensure that there are no long stretches of work without a break. Currently this rota averages 44 hours per week when averaged over the year but may be subject to minor changes over the course of employment.

Job title: Women’s Health Clinical Governance, and Quality Improvement Lead

Band 8B: (£58,972 - £68,525 per annum pro rata)

Due to the promotion of our current postholder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and inspirational midwifery leader to join our team of compassionate, supportive, and dedicated Midwifery and Medical staff at Milton Keynes University Hospital as a Midwifery Matron.

The successful applicant will support the delivery of national and regional safety and quality requirements in addition to ensuring and monitoring a continuous high standard of clinical governance quality improvements within the service.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated midwifery leader who will champion a high level of professional standards and excellence across our maternity services, working to build on the achievements of the service which was rated by the CQC as Good for Safe and Outstanding for Well Led.

The successful candidate will lead the teams with compassion, kindness, lead, and shape outstanding quality care alongside the divisional Multidisciplinary team.

The role is responsible for engaging Midwifery, nursing staff and the wider Multidisciplinary team across the division in taking forward the maternity services priorities alongside the Trust wide nursing and midwifery quality improvement initiatives. They will be key in collaborating with the divisional Chief Midwife and the clinical Director to drive quality and safety.

We are looking for someone who can work in collaboration with the service users, their families, and staff, modelling outstanding care every time and able to promote a positive team working ethic. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be initiative-taking and flexible in your approach to care delivery and be committed to quality improvement.
